      Engineering Manager Interview

      Jul 24, 2019
      Anonymous employee
      Glasgow, Scotland
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Skyscanner (Glasgow, Scotland) in Jul 2019

      Interview

After sending my CV I had an initial call with the recruiter for the job to get a better feel of what the role is and what skills are needed. It felt like a good fit for both sides so decided to take it further to the next stage. Next stage consisted of 2 video calls, an hour each, back to back. The first one was with a senior engineer and I had to talk in detail about a project. Going through the technical architecture, pros and cons of each component etc. It is recommended to not just talk about it but using the tool to draw your diagram or share it with the interviewer. Be prepared to defend your technical choices and come up with reasons why you opted for a service/technology or not another. The second video call was around culture. The aim of this one was to determine if I was a good fit in the team. Nothing which was too technical. A few days later I was told I was selected for the next stage. This stage consisted of a full day (5hours) at Skyscanner office. 2 sessions of 1hour each, 1hour break and another 2 sessions at the end. The first session was around my CV, past experiences and culture fit. Second and third sessions covered hard problems were you are given scenarios to implement. Again, be prepared to defend your technical decisions here! Last session was around managerial techniques and experience with some competency based questions. Few days after the full day session, I got feedback from the recruiter which was followed by a call with a person from Skyscanner onboarding team to give me the offer details.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Skyscanner (London, England) in Nov 2025

      Interview

I recently interviewed for an engineering leadership role at Skyscanner, and unfortunately the candidate experience was disappointing. I was rejected at the first-stage people management interview. The interviewer showed very little engagement throughout the call. No follow-up questions, no interest in the examples I provided, and often moved to the next question before I finished my answers. It felt more like reading from a script than having a genuine two-way conversation. After the interview, the recruiter did not respond to my follow-up emails, and the final rejection came through a generic automated template rather than a personal message from the recruiter I had been speaking with. No feedback was provided, despite the process being advertised as a “people-first, caring, curious culture.” Overall, the experience felt impersonal and transactional. Companies often talk about “putting people first,” but I didn't see that reflected here.

      Interview

The interview was completely remote, but that may have changed by now. I was a mixture of people management, tech and culture. The question where fare and the people are genuinely excited about working for Skyscanner.

Culture is important to Skyscanner, they will ask you to see if you are a good fit for the company.

      Interview

First stage interview with VP. However, they pulled the role before second stage. This was a Teams call where the VP asked various questions. Nothing else notable but there is a minimum word limit to this field.
