    Three hours on site interview, 3 technical guys and a team leader interviewed me, I needed to complete several programming puzzles and gave answers.
    The interview question spans from Java basic, Database concept, SQL query, OOP, to some algorithm question.

    • If a java program needs 8 hours to run, and it worked previously, but you take over the program, this time it crashes because of out of memory after 4 hours running, what will you do for that?
      Is Java parameter passes by value or by reference.

    Interview

    I was set to interview with three people, including a VP. I ended up talking to a fourth person as well who happened to be in from the New York office. I was there for three hours and spent half of that time twiddling my thumbs, waiting for someone to come talk to me. I felt like it went well. The fourth person I interviewed with actually talked to me about a different position that they thought I would be good for.
    Ultimately, I never heard back from anyone. I sent a couple of emails to the HR-type person I had gone through and with one of the people who interviewed me. Radio silence. I didn't appreciate not getting any kind of response after a three-hour interview.

    Behavior and Technical questions in JAVA, just know basic loops and some simple data structures. Overall talked to one of the employees and senior developer which was a little tense, but thats pretty much with all interviews.

    I had a brief phone interview with the Content Director, followed by a timed writing test administered on a separate day. The test is performed online and is very similar to the work you would perform as a freelancer for the company. It took a couple days for the test to be reviewed and then I received a contract offer.

    Perhaps I can sum it up thusly: "The single biggest waste of time in my entire life"

    I came to DC multiple times, for multiple interviews, and this after a phone interview and probably 398 emails to even confirm my interest. I was really interested in the position, had done a ton of reading, knew all the faces, etc. I was super pumped to crush it for SB.

    The only thing that was crushed was my soul while I waited around for 45 minutes for my scheduled interview, wandering around in an empty conference room. Twice. Hey, I was interested in the job, so whatever. But my time is worth something too, right? Read on, intrepid reader, and you'll find out how wrong that last statement is....

    I spoke and met with multiple people in the marketing department. i answered innumerable questions, including going through a whole behavioral interview (textbook STAR methodology). I guess I passed muster, so I was invited back for a second round of interviews, this time with upper management and HR. I met CEO Stamberger, who actually seemed like a hell of a guy, and some of their other upper management folks. I spent an hour discussing Pardot with their Senior VP of Products and Ops.

    I felt like I'd done pretty well. Maybe even more than pretty well. This is, lets say...about the middle of May.

    I didn't hear anything back the next week. Nor the next. Nor the next. Not a response in May. Not a peep in June. I sent so many follow-up emails I thought my computer might melt down into a cube of aluminum.

    I finally heard back in JULY that ....whelp, we just can't make you an offer at this time (or apparently any other time, obviously).

    Just for the purposes of irony (I promise this is true....you can't make this stuff up) I received an email back a couple of weeks later which stated "At this time, it has been determined to close the XXX-XXXX position and not move forward with filling this role."

    After wasting all my time (and who knows how many other people's)...they didn't hire anyone.

    I felt like I was in the move 'Trading Places' and Mortimer & Randolph made a bet as to how much of my time they could waste. Read some of the other reviews of this company on Glassdoor, and decide for yourself if the following statement applies not only to my experience, but employee experiences in general at SmartBrief:

    I'm not sure who won, but it sure wasn't me.

    Well, they look at your resume and then just ask you questions about the projects you put on there, you might not get grilled for answers but you will have to discuss your knowledge and they will pick up on whether or not you know what you're talking about.

    Just be prepared by actually knowing how to code and think about code and you should be fine

    Initially, I applied for a freelance copywriting position and took the timed test. Apparently I did well enough that I was asked whether I'd be interested in applying for a remote editor position. I was and took another timed test, which I did well enough for a phone interview with a supervising editor who oversees multiple "briefs". Then I interviewed, again on the phone, with the next supervisor, and concluded with multiple Skype interviews with other writers and editors in their home office in D.C. I was told I was one of two finalists, and they ultimately went with the other candidate, who lived in the area, but they were wonderful to me every step of the way. They shied from no question. They were effusive and generous. I was convinced they would be good people with whom to work.

    • None of the questions were terribly difficult--there were some interesting speculative questions about ways to increase reach and impact that were difficult to feel confident about from the outside of the business--but the Skype interviews were tough because of the technology. There were lags that made it difficult for me and my interviewers to avoid speaking over each other and stepping on each others' questions.   Answer Question

    Got an email from the recruiter to set up a phone interview. During the phone interview, the hiring manager was not paying attention to what i said. I felt they were not interested in me and just wanted to end the interview ASAP. It was not really professional and pleasant. I was told that I would hear from them again for the next step in a week, never heard from them. I followed up with recruiter and never got a reply. The entire recruiting process was just not professional at all.
