      Full Stack Developer Interview

      Sep 3, 2016
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Remote, OR
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Symless (Remote, OR) in May 2016

      Interview

Applied for a Mid/Senior Full Stack developer position at the company, after an ad was posted in social media. I was approached by the company's Office Manager, to schedule an interview with the CEO for a Saturday morning. 30min before the job interview, I've received a notification that the CEO couldn't attend the interview, as he was one hour away from landing in China. I found it very odd, as a flight to China is not exactly an unplanned short notice event. But that's ok, as a new interview was scheduled again for the following week. I'd soon found out that, the interview wasn't actually with the CEO, but instead with someone related to sales (now with different title). I didn't knew that at the time. The interview, which was a skill assessment, was done via skype but as a normal phone call (no text), with very bad audible quality. A 15 year career was reduced to a bad 10 minute phone call. Overall, the interview process wasn't a success, some of it due to my own fault. A couple months after, the CEO reached out to me over social media, and requested a (positive?) introduction to another of my connections, in a very direct and short message. Surprised, I inquired "sorry?" in order to further understand what was required of me, as I didn't really knew the CEO, to which I got another short message "How come?"... That was the end of the conversation. Needless to say, that not being picked by Symless, now seams to have been a bless in disguise.

      Question 1

What does the function "print underscore r" do? (over a very bad skype connection, without text communication)

Hello, I'm really sorry for the confusion you experienced during our recruitment process. I discovered that this was down to a lack of resources and have since taken steps to divert more resources toward recruitment so that this won't happen again. Please feel free to apply for the role again in the near future. Good luck with your career! Thanks, Nick Bolton CEO of Symless
