      Help Desk Specialist Interview

      Jun 9, 2025
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Teal in May 2025

      Interview

This was one of the most frustrating and unprofessional hiring experiences I’ve ever had. I was asked to complete an online assessment that started off reasonably with logic and personality-based questions. But then, out of nowhere, the test shifted almost entirely to questions about Data Ocean, a tool that was never once mentioned in the job description or any communication beforehand. This wasn’t just a poorly designed assessment. It was a bait-and-switch, plain and simple. There weren’t even help-desk/IT questions on the assessment! If experience with Data Ocean was a requirement for the role, that should’ve been made crystal clear from the start. Instead, they set candidates up to fail by blindsiding them with irrelevant content. Unsurprisingly, I scored well on everything except the Data Ocean section. Which, again, I’ve never used. The fact that this tool made up most of the assessment is absurd and shows a complete lack of respect for any applicants' time. After completing the assessment, I was then contacted 2 weeks later. Asking me to record a video introducing myself. They didn’t even have the decency to extend me an in-person interview. Even a zoom call would have been better than that crap. The sheer laziness of Teal speaks volumes of their unprofessionalism. Overall, this entire process felt like a careless, disorganized mess. It makes me seriously question the internal standards of this company. If this is how they handle hiring, I can’t imagine how chaotic things must be on the inside. I’m considering it a bullet dodged.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We’re genuinely sorry that your interview experience caused you frustration and that it felt unprofessional. We understand how frustrating it can be when parts of the process feel misaligned with the role you’re applying for. We strive to make our interview process fast and straightforward for our candidates. The Data Ocean questions you mentioned were never meant to be a part of your interview process. We were changing assessment providers at the time when these questions got added accidentally. Our team promptly made changes when we became aware of it. Because of this situation, we implemented new procedures to prevent such incidents from occurring again in the future. We’re always gathering information on how we can improve our processes from both candidates and new employees. For example, the one-way video interview process you mentioned was implemented two years ago in response to feedback from new hires. It helps to speed up the time from applying to hiring and has proven to be very successful. We continually strive to create a transparent, respectful, and efficient hiring process for every candidate. While we may not always get it right, feedback like yours helps us identify where we can do better. Thank you again. We wish you all the best in your job search!
