      Software Engineer Interview

      Sep 23, 2016
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Atlanta, GA
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Terminus (Atlanta, GA) in Sep 2016

      Interview

I had a 30-minute phone interview with the recruiter, followed by a 30-minute phone interview with the CTO, and later came in for a lunch interview and technical screen with the tech team (8-10 people) lasting about 2 hours. During the in person interview, the interviewers were mostly concerned with my prior experience and how on top of new technologies I was. The technical screen questions were broad in scope and straight forward to answer based off your skill set. Questions were back-end geared, and the interviewers were looking for very specific answers. I was asked to white board some simple algorithms. They provided a laptop if I needed to google anything, but there really was no need to use it, as they basically told you an answer if I didn't mention it right off the bat after being asked. Despite not getting an offer, it was overall a good experience with a solid team of knowledgable developers. I had the feeling they were hiring mostly on experience, rather than intelligence or culture fit.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

What is the most efficient way to find the heaviest marble in a pile of marbles using a balancing scale? Write a SQL join / group by between two tables. Use Active Record to find all descendants of an object. How would you implement a feature flagging system for clients needing different features enabled with the ability to globally override these settings?

      Anonymous employee
      Atlanta, GA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Terminus (Atlanta, GA)

      Interview

It was pretty standard process.. phone screen first with a senior engineer and when you get the green light they invite you for an onsite. Onsite interview was divided into 3 sessions with about 2-3 people each asking you questions. For the UI position, they dont ask framework specific questions but rather pick your brain on principle javascript concepts and simple exercises to see how you think. As long as you know javascript and how it works it is not difficult
