      Technical Support Engineer Interview

      Jan 20, 2018
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      New York, NY
      Declined offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at TripleLift (New York, NY)

      Interview

I was initially contacted by a recruiter after submitting my application online. A typical recruiter screen was followed by a quick 30 minute interview with a Solutions Engineer and a simple Codepen coding exercise. About 2 weeks after that I was invited back to the office for a series of interviews with 5 people on the team. A coding exercise was given to me to work on prior to the interview and the first 1.5hr was spent completing the exercise and asking any clarifying questions. The interviews were largely behavioral and assessed my high-level technical competencies, along with a quick whiteboarding session with the leader of the team. A week later I was asked to come in to meet with the CTO, who was awesome to talk to and had a great perspective on the company. I didn't hear any final decision from the recruiter for weeks following (she did check in weekly to let me know what was going on, which was comforting). I was eventually given an offer, but it ended up being for a different position from what I had thought I had been interviewing for over the last 2+ months. I felt like I didn't have a good enough perspective on the role I was being offered (didn't tailor my questioning during the process towards the role I was ultimately offered), which ultimately led to me turning down the position. Everyone I met with was friendly, intelligent, and genuinely excited about where the company is going, but I had a hard time justifying accepting a role that I didn't feel 100% informed about.
