      Summer Associate Interview

      Feb 2, 2026
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I interviewed at Wachtell Lipton (New York, NY)

      Interview

20 min virtual screener, had one question about my background and then spent the entire time debating a legal issue of my choice. No callback. Interviewed with a partner. Overall hard, but doable with some prep and thinking on your toes. I think I was not reactive enough to what my interviewer was asking me, instead I was sticking to my prep too much. Ghosted me for a week until I told them I had another offer, then they said I was not selected for a callback.

      Question 1

What’s a legal issue you found interesting? Class or otherwise.

I applied through college or university. I interviewed at Wachtell Lipton

      Interview

Standard on-campus screening interview process where you engage in a 20 minutes in-person conversation with an attorney at the firm. Make sure to prepare for more substantive questions than the average firm because the firm cares a lot about your legal thinking abilities.

      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Wachtell Lipton in Mar 2009

      Interview

I was recommended for the job by a former employee so my interview process was atypically short. I do not know what the typical recruiting process looks like. I interviewed with five people during my call back, three partners and one associate. The conversations were intellectual but the interviewing style was not hostile or stressful in the least bit. The topics ranged from previous legal experience to hobbies and books.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

I was asked to present and analyze a legal issue that i encountered and wrote a memorandum about.
