Software Engineer - Machine Learning Interview

      Jun 6, 2022
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Toronto, ON
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at X (Toronto, ON) in Aug 2021

      Interview

Multiple recruiter calls. Kept getting ghosted by recruiter. Moved to technical screen. Easy interview where you write code in shared doc, does not need to compile. Then moved to on-site. There interviewers, one design, one coding, one behavioral. The design was fine, interviewers were helpful. Behavioral was topgrading, where they review your entire work history, asking you to put yourself in the shoes of your manager. Asking stuff like "What would your boss say is the thing you had to improve on?" The coding interview was a nightmare. There were two interviewers, one asking the questions and the other taking notes. The note taker kept ignoring questions, never making it clear they were only a note taker. The interviewer had a really strong Asian accent and I could not for the life of me figure out what they were saying. They couldn't even pronounce my name right after five or six tries. And my name is not that complicated. The interviewer kept asking me questions about what I just went over multiple times with him. He kept saying "I don't understand what you are doing" and I kept explaining my solution, which lost me a good thirty minutes out of the hour we had. The question was a leetcode hard. After the interviews, even though two out of three were great, they didn't even contact me to say I wasn't taken. When I reached out, they ghosted me again. The recruiter was extremely disrespectful overall. I would not recommend interviewing with them. People have to plan their lives and twitter doesn't care about that.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Top grading, look it up online. They don't call your supervisor, but you have to be prepared to reflect on your best and worst times in an honest way. They do this to spot if you lie on your CV. Very easy to pass if you tell the truth.
