Applied for a senior AI leadership/architecture role at Optum through their vendor, York Solutions. The initial recruiter interaction was fine, but the feedback passed down from the Optum hiring manager was a complete joke. I have 15+ years of tech experience, including leading core automation and AR initiatives at Wayfair, engineering enterprise AI systems at LexisNexis, and recently being selected to architect enterprise AI for a Fortune 20 firm. Despite this, the Optum hiring manager rejected my background stating a lack of 'recent enterprise experience.' It is deeply concerning that technical hiring managers at a massive healthcare enterprise cannot accurately read a resume or evaluate high-level architecture experience. They expect senior professionals to drop their standard market rates for an interview, only to waste their time due to clear internal oversight. Avoid this team if you value professional alignment. Advice to Management: Train your technical hiring managers to understand the actual architecture scale of companies like Wayfair and LexisNexis. Stop letting managers hide behind being 'picky' when they are simply unqualified to evaluate top-tier AI talent. Your staffing vendors are alienating great candidates because your internal screening standards are broken.
