      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at ecobee (Toronto, ON) in Mar 2025

      Interview

Started with 30 30-minute HR screen, then there was a 1-hour technical interview with the hiring manager (mostly past experiences, challenges in past projects etc), and then the final round was a 2-hour game design question with stages with a technical panel, I was told to expect STAR behavioural questions, but the never occured. The gentlemen I talked to were very nice. Followed up a week later, and got ghosted. Would have been nice to get closure, or feedback

      Embedded Software Engineer Interview

      Aug 17, 2024
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Toronto, ON
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at ecobee (Toronto, ON)

      Interview

I had 2 interviews with a VP and a Director. A third meeting was supposed to be a presentation for a case-study about implementing a Railway simulator. I was supposed to present my project in 30 minutes and have a Q & A for another 30 minutes. A particular Staff member started interrupting my presentation just after 5 minutes of its start and kept interrupting me all the way long. He also asked me to skip some demo features even withing my 30 minutes presentation time. Despite the job was for embedded system their case-study was probably 95% UI development and 5% the actual simulation coding. I decided to implement the 95% in C++ and I created an embedded python interpreter to isolate and facilitate the simulation coding. At the end I was disqualified for the position as my code-base was "too big" and "complex" for them to review. So you are asked to implement "A". You deliver "A" + "B". Anywhere in the world you are considered to exceed the expectations. But at Ecobee you are a failure. They are either really narrow minded or they gaslights you by fabricating reasons to kick you out. I will never ever apply to this company again. BTW... my case-study is at github, search for tracksim under user mvaranda. Video demos are in the readme (or just scroll down). Think twice before wasting your time with this company.
