I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at ecobee (Toronto, ON)
Interview
It has been a few months but the reason I am writing this review is my friend and I both interviewed at ecobee and had completely different experiences so I think it really depends on what HR person and team you work with. My process was so amazing and while neither of us got the job his was a bit of a nightmare.
I got an inmail on LinkedIn and an email to my Gmail address trying to gain my interest, both messages were for the same role (from the same girl) but she wrote different messages not a cut and paste which was a good start. That's a lot more than other recruiters bother to do...
Then a phone call with HR (which she was able to do at 6pm) was half technical but she also spent a lot of time talking about the companies story and the background of the team and what I would most likely be working on (the team that works on their commercial product line). She was so honest about things the company is still working on (it sounds like they are trying to adopt a more agile approach for a hardware company and they have a lot of new management) that I really felt like she wasn't just lying to me to get me to interview. I didn’t have to ask specific questions either, she just filled me in on what she thought may help my decision.
I didn’t get further than that call but I received feedback on exactly what areas she felt wouldn’t align with the team and it was very helpful feedback. I even got the questions she asked me and the answers she had hoped for.
Like I said my friends interview was horrible, it was for a different role with a different girl and he had been sent the same message for months on end but he finally responded because I was interviewing. He got bullied into saying a specific salary number in the first call and I guess she thought it was too high because she then asked what he was currently making…she kept asking him what he did and what he wanted to do like she had never read his resume in the first place. Why would you reach out to someone for so long unless you saw a really good match? Aren’t you suppose to be selling us?
Neither of us made it very far but I was reading Glassdoor reviews and it sounds like it really depends who you get at ecobee. Could be great, could stressful and confusing.. Sorry if this is harsh, but for us it was true.
