Description Jackson State University (JSU) is a historically black college offering bachelor's, master's, specialist, and doctorate degrees through five academic colleges: business; education and human development; liberal arts; public service; and science, engineering, and technology. Its College of Lifelong Learning enrolls students 25 years of age and older. The university also operates the Mississippi Urban Research Center, which analyzes and distributes information relating to public policies and activities that effect urban life. JSU was founded in 1877 and achieved university status in 1974. It has an enrollment of more than 8,000 students.
