If all the syllables in the name Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University start to rattle around in your mouth, just call it Florida A&M like everyone else -- or simply FAMU. With a student body of some 13,000, FAMU is known for its pharmacy, business, education, and engineering programs. The school has several satellite campuses in Miami, Jacksonville and Tampa. FAMU's College of Law is in Orlando. FAMU also gets a lot of attention for it Rattlers football team and its famous Marching "100," school band, which has performed numerous times at the NFL Super Bowl. FAMU, a historically black institution, was founded in 1887 on a former slave plantation. It is part of Florida's State University System.
