Description California's State Water Resources Control Board (State Water Board) is dedicated to protecting and allocating water from the state's lakes, rivers, streams, and coastal waters. The State Water Board, which consists of five members, was established by the legislature in 1967. An additional nine Regional Water Quality Control Boards develop plans to ensure water quality in the state's different regions. The board also provides a variety of public outreach and educational programs. The governor appoints all board members, which are later approved by the Senate. The State Water Board has an annual budget of about $632 million.
