Mission As a vital education and enrichment center in East Harlem, EHTP supports children from early childhood through adulthood. The organization ensures that students have the resources to access opportunities for academic, social, and career advancement. EHTP also fully engages parents and caregivers in their children's development. This includes setting high expectations for both staff and participants and continually assessing outcomes and community needs to deliver the highest quality and most effective programs.
Description East Harlem Tutorial Program (EHTP) was founded in 1958 by a community leader whose love of reading and dedication to the children of East Harlem inspired her to start a volunteer-run reading group in her living room. Since then, EHTP has evolved from a tutoring program into a multi-site, multi-dimensional educational organization that will serve over 1,600 Pre-K through college students this year. Its offerings include after-school and summer programs, a network of public charter schools, the College Scholars program, and the East Harlem Teaching Residency and Fellowship. Today, EHTP is recognized as a leader among organizations advancing educational outcomes and as a committed advocate for racial equity on a national scale.
