A multinational bank, Banco Latinoamericano de Comercio Exterior (which translates to "Foreign Trade Bank of Latin America", operating as Bladex) specializes in financing foreign trade in Latin American and the Caribbean. Centrally based in Panama City, Bladex primarily provides short-term finance for some 270 clients, mainly commercial banks, in some 25 countries. Its main sources of funds are inter-bank deposits, investments, bond sales, and short-term borrowings from other international banks. The bank also offers trade financing to government entities and selected corporations and asset management to institutional investors. Bladex offers no retail services.
