Among its offerings are men's and women's apparel, footwear, cosmetics, gifts, and house wares. The company's online shopping site re-launched in 2009. Founded by John Elmes Beale as Fancy Fair in 1881, Beale floated on the UK stock market in 1995. Panther Securities, a property investment firm, owns about 30% of the company. In 2011 Beale nearly tripled in size via the purchase of 19 stores from Anglia Regional Co-op.
