Deciphering a doctor's bad handwriting is no problem for Katz Group. One of Canada's largest private companies, Katz Group is among the largest drugstore chains in North America. It has grown, primarily through acquisitions, to number more than 1,800 corporate, franchise, and independent pharmacies across nine Canadian provinces. Its banners include Drug Trading Co., Pharma Plus Drugmarts, Rexall Drugstores, and Medicine Shoppe Canada, as well as the Rexall Direct (formerly Meditrust Pharmacy) mail-order pharmacy group. The company is consolidating its pharmacy banners and its private label products under the Rexall name. Founder and chairman Daryl Katz controls the firm.
