It started off as a way for two high school students in Lansing, Mich., to make some extra spending money by helping people move and now, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK is celebrating its 40th birthday! The year was 1985, and brothers Brig and Jon Sorber were moving people around Lansing in their 1966 Ford pickup truck. When both brothers graduated and went off to college, their mother – Mary Ellen Sheets – kept getting calls about the moving services, and she decided to keep it going by hiring more movers in the area. 40 years and 10 million moves later, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK is still going strong! We became the first and largest franchised moving company in the country, operating in 48 states coast to coast while also having locations across Canada, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. It’s been a wild journey for our brand, but one that’s just getting started, and we’re happy to reflect on the past while still looking forward to what’s next! Here are a few notable milestones for the brand since 1985 - Over 10 million moves completed as a brand - More than 430 locations across four countries - A system-wide 96 percent customer referral rating - Five established giving programs with Movers for Moms, Movers for Mutts, Movers for Meals, Movers for Military, and Truckload of Warmth - Developed our sister company, TWO MEN AND A JUNK TRUCK, in 2023 It’s been quite the ride for TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, and we’re just getting started! For the second-straight year, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK is set to kickoff its Career Move Season hiring campaign across their 430-plus franchise locations. This hiring initiative – which runs from March through May – is designed to increase awareness for TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchises and their hiring efforts as the brand gears up for the busy moving season, with a goal of 6,500 new hires at the franchise level. The 2024 campaign set out to hire 5,000 and we were able to clear that goal, so we’re shooting even higher this year! Career Move Season applies to all jobs at the franchise level, not just roles for movers and drivers. It takes a whole franchise team coming together to help move customers forward, and that’s why our locations put so much effort into building their teams as spring approaches.
