Our mission is to be a steadfast financial partner in our community; relentless in our goal to help local businesses flourish and families reach their financial goals -- all while providing long term shareholder value.
Our Vision is to set the standard for integrity and excellent customer service in the banking industry, and build strong and vibrant communities today and for future generations.
Description West Suburban Bank (WSB) is a local business, originally founded in 1962 by Ralph Acker. He saw an opportunity to create the type of banking experience he was looking for in his own community; an experience where relationships are established with bankers who are a part of the communities they served and therefore understand the needs of the residents and local business owners more personally. Where you weren’t just another account number, but a neighbor investing in their future, raising their families, improving their homes or opening up their own business.
Since we were established, WSB has grown to become one of the largest privately-held independent banks in the west suburbs of Chicago. We have grown from $35 million in assets in the early 1970s to more than $2 billion in assets today, with 35 full-service branch locations that serve 4 counties in Illinois. WSB has helped countless families buy or improve their homes, send their children to college, save for retirement, and even start their own business. Customers are not just a line of a spreadsheet, they are the heart and soul of our business, and our reason for coming to work each day.
Although the banking industry has seen a lot of change over the years, there are a few things that have remained the same. WSB remains family and employee-owned to this day. Keith Acker serves as President of West Suburban Bank, while his brother Kevin is President and CEO of the parent company West Suburban Bancorp. Employees are shareholders in the business, and have a vested interest in our success. Most importantly, we have not strayed from the original founding principles the company was built on, which are evident in our 6 Core Values:
SERVICE - We deliver an exceptional experience with every customer interaction. Our customers are our neighbors; people in our community working hard to establish their careers, grow their families and pursue their dreams. We are honored to be able to help support them whether it’s saving for vacation, remodeling their homes, investing for their future or starting their own business. Our success depends on how we treat our customers, and our goal is to deliver the best possible service every time.
COMMUNITY - We give back to the communities we serve. Our investments focus on the community. You won't find overseas investments or foreign market speculation on our balance sheet. Instead, you'll find the loans that have helped secure or improve the homes and businesses in the communities we serve. And because WSB values the local community so much, many West Suburban Bank employees are directly involved in local fundraising and volunteer efforts.
INTEGRITY - We do the right thing and communicate with trust and respect. Our customers place their trust in us every day, and that is a responsibility we don’t take lightly. From giving credible financial advice to safeguarding our customers from fraud, we work hard every day to make sure customers can bank at WSB with confidence. We are proud to have twice been awarded the Better Business Bureau Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics.
INNOVATION - We pursue excellence with courage, passion and creativity. While our tight-knit team environment and approach to outstanding service might seem "old school" - don't let that fool you. WSB has stayed on the cutting edge of technology to meet the changing needs of our customers and to compete with the nationally-owned banks. We aim to offer convenience to our customers, without losing our competitive advantage of unmatched service.
LEADERSHIP - We lead by example and develop others to reach their potential. While many "big banks" have been closing branches and cutting staff, West Suburban Bank has continuously been adding entry-level and experienced professionals to our team. As a rapidly growing community bank, we have a variety of rewarding employment opportunities available, with lots of room for advancement. Many of our key leaders have worked their way up from an entry-level position. They are a testament to the value we place on developing our staff and promoting from within.
TEAMWORK - We are one team that encourages each other and values our differences. Our values serve as the guidepost for everything we do as members of Team WSB, and help us stay true to who we are as we pursue our mission and vision. They have shaped our unique company culture, where co-workers feel like an extension of family.
