Although it was born and raised in the Tar Heel State, S. T. Wooten prefers to use asphalt and concrete in its construction projects. The company is a heavy construction firm that specializes in building roads and other civil infrastructure projects in the Carolinas, Florida, and other southeastern states. It operates through more than a half dozen business units: asphalt, commercial, quality concrete, ready mix concrete, heavy grade, structures, and utilities. It has 13 asphalt plants and 17 ready-mix concrete plants. Seth T. Wooten Sr. founded the company in Stantonsburg, North Carolina, in 1952. Seth Wooten Jr. serves as the company's CEO; the Wooten family continues to own the business.
