Cobalt International Energy scours the deep blue seas in search of oil. An exploration and development company, Cobalt International owns interests in offshore properties located in the Gulf of Mexico and West Africa. The company's assets include majority and minority stakes in more than 600,000 net acres in almost 50 blocks in the Gulf and more than 2 million acres in more than 100 prospects located off the coast of Gabon and Angola. It focuses primarily on searching for oil pockets encased beneath salt layers, which until recently was traditionally untapped geological territory in the oil industry. Cobalt International Energy contracts two drilling rigs, one from Ensco and one from Diamond Offshore.
