GSI Technology makes some very fast chips. The company designs and markets specialized SRAM (static random-access memory) integrated circuits used in high-speed networking equipment. Marketed under the Very Fast brand, its chips allow routers, switches, and other gear from the likes of Alcatel-Lucent and Cisco Systems to retrieve data at the speeds needed for broadband transmission. The fabless semiconductor company does most of its business through contract manufacturers, such as Jabil Circuit, and through distributors, including Avnet and Nu Horizons. Other top customers include SMART Modular Technologies, which buys memory chips for products it makes on behalf of Cisco.
