JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration Corporation (NOEX) is the upstream operations arm of JX Holdings, the newly formed parent company of both JX Nippon Oil & Energy Corporation (formerly Nippon Oil) and JX Nippon Mining & Metals Corporation (formerly Nippon Mining). Like its name implies, the company explores for natural resources ranging from crude oil to liquefied natural gas and oil sand. It has interests in about 15 countries around the world, but NOEX is focused on three sure bets -- Malaysia, Vietnam, and the North Sea. NOEX was created in 2010 by combining the oil and natural gas exploration businesses of Nippon Oil Exploration Limited and Japan Energy Development Co., Ltd.
