An Act of Heroism: Mike Rosenbaum In January, Mike was at a terminal working at the back of his tanker while it was being prepared for loading. While waiting for product to load, Mike heard an explosion. He turned around to see the operator on top of the railcar, hanging over the safety cage with the air hose fitting letting loose, getting sprayed with high pressured air and caustic soda. The operator’s safety goggles blew off from the pressure and his face and body were covered in caustic soda. Mike (in PPE) ran up to help the operator, carrying him down the stairs and into a safety shower. He then helped the operator flush his eyes and body to remove as much chemical substance as possible. Mike’s quick action undoubtedly helped limit the damage of the caustic to the operator’s eyes, face and body. Mike was not concerned about his own safety; only the welfare of the operator who had been hurt. Mike embodies every part of OWI’s Core Values, and we are very proud of him. OWI has successfully brought our managers back to the office 3 days/week. To prepare our leaders for the transition, we conducted multiple return to office sessions back in October. These developmental sessions went without a hitch and our managers have now been back 3 days/week for almost 4 months. It is so good to interact with humans in person - feels almost normal!...Show more
