I have been working at Axis41 full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great collaborative environment, not a lot of egos, emphasis on good design and UX. Fun, relaxed atmosphere. Frequent free food. Nice office in a renovated old building in downtown Salt Lake City. Lots of great restaurants nearby. Easy access to transit and I-15.

    Cons

Most work is CMS integrations for medium-sized companies that generally aren't interested in doing anything particularly innovative. The project planning and project management often leaves much to be desired.

    Advice to Management

More emphasis on project planning/project management--especially upfront analysis.

    I worked at Axis41 full-time

    Pros

    Salary was above asking market

    Cons

Management at this company does not care about you. Axis41 is going through growing pains because of the acquisition to Merkle Inc resulting in management not understanding their daily responsibilities let alone try and help in any way. You will not be equipped with any tools (literally will not) until about a month in when you are already on large scale projects. It's amazing how "leadership" got their titles as I see nobody deserving of that title.
Please stay away from this company for now. The Merkle Inc integration is a complete disaster and you will not be happy. Most of the personnel (including leadership) are from McCann, so operations is a complete duplicate. This is not an agile shop!

    Advice to Management

Put people who know how to lead in leadership positions instead of playing the blame game. Take ownership of your title and be there for those you manage.

    I worked at Axis41 full-time

    Pros

Donuts, bagels. Peers that I worked with were knowledgeable.

    Cons

Seemed unorganized with no discernible guide for what was required. Definitely a culture that catered to favorites.

    Advice to Management

No training was provided. On-boarding was a nightmare to say the least. Just because you promoted a good developer to management does NOT automatically make them qualified to be a manager.

    Pros

Culture is everything. The people are nice and great to work with. Benefits are about average (401k, health, dental, etc).

    Cons

Salary is low. Career advancement is tough.

    Advice to Management

Need to have a better way to manage career advancements and salary increase. Now acquired my Merkle.

    Pros

I sought out employment at Axis41 because they were rated as one of the best companies in UT to work for. I've not been let down! Love it here. Great communication, good benefits and awesome work culture. Only criticism would be the lack of transparency in the PTO scheduling.

    Cons

Very few cons. Would be nice to be able to see PTO balance love for future planning.

    I have been working at Axis41 full-time

    Pros

Great people to be around, pretty "hip" environment to work in. Company culture is unique (in a good way)

    Cons

Been expanding very fast which is causing some serious growing pains. Some developers don't have enough work while others are overworked.

    Also, benefits aren't great.

    Advice to Management

Pump a brakes a bit and re-evaluate the core strategy going forward. While this may cause some slowdown short term, it is necessary to continue to operate and grow.

    I worked at Axis41 full-time

    Pros

There are a lot of great people at Axis41. The innovation and ability to create solutions to problems are endless. So much potential. The partners are great and you really do feel appreciated for what you do.

    Cons

Despite so many great people, there are a few fakers who are poisonous to certain areas of the company. They will pretend to offer their support and tell you what a great job you do and how much faith they have in your efforts, but as soon as you try to cash in on those promises and good faith, you will be tagged as incompetent and will not be given any meaningful work to do. They will micro-manage you and make you do things exactly the way they say to do it, taking away your ability to think creatively or collaborate with others. They offer no training or onboarding, so expectations and "standards" are never clear until you've screwed something up. Then they blame you because you didn't ask questions.

Constant reorganizing is the result of having grown too fast. There was a hiring surge over Summer/Fall 2015, and several people were brought in and kept for a few months and fired. The guy sitting next to me was fired the day before Christmas weekend. Reorganizing has resulted in constant communication issues. I got in serious trouble with one of these toxic managers for using a web application that wasn't "approved", but was widely used throughout the company. There is no consistency and this "make it up as you go along" approach to management caused numerous problems for me.

    Advice to Management

    1. Train people 2. Figure out your "standards" and make them consistent 3. I don't want to name names here but some of your more intense managers have no business managing 4. Hire more carefully and deliberately

I have been working at Axis41 full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Really smart co-workers, interesting and diverse work, great management, big enough to attract good clients but small enough to be agile.

    Cons

Growing too fast for its own good (lack of organization when it comes to delegation of responsibilities), Mac-only office (if you work with Excel a lot you'll need Parallels or Boot Camp and a stress ball).
