Pros

Aztec US offers a view into how to grow a business in a new region. Lots of experience to be gained and the ability to see many facets of the operation. They are now moving to a more corporate approach mostly due to their size.

Cons

Aztec need to address equality and diversity issues in their Radnor, PA office to be successful. Less than 20% of their staff are women and lower percentages for minorities. For a growing office, this could be justified in the short term but it’s the office culture that cannot be overlooked. All employees need to be supported regardless and that includes healthy numbers of diverse staff to build a thriving environment. No excuses for arguments on the floor, for passing over qualified staff for opportunities or promotions, for low senior representation with only one female in a leadership position. If you are a talented woman or person of color looking to build a career, be careful of taking a position with this company.

Pros

Founder (and former CEO) of this company is phenomenal and has excellent vision for the future of the company. Unique opportunity to work with interjurisdictional teams, given company's presence in several European countries. Solid Employee Benefits Company is exceptionally generous with events, company travel, etc. The below "cons" apply to Aztec's US office specifically, rather than to the company as a whole.

Cons

Aztec's US office leaves much to be desired. Half of the staff are capable but very junior level staff accountants, and the other half secondees from the company's UK offices whom (though well-intentioned) have very little understanding of US private equity markets, nor any of the associated US compliance regulations. This, combined with ineptitude & unaccountability amongst the US senior management team, made for a predictably chaotic, borderline-toxic work environment. There were also concerns with the company's Diversity & Inclusion efforts (or lack thereof). For anyone other than recent college graduates looking to earn a living while studying for the CPA exam (and gain some experience in the process), this place is best avoided. There are many much better opportunities out there in this competitive job market. This is all unfortunate, given Aztec's European offices were exceptionally well run & staffed with some great talent.
