Pros

You will be exposed to a very large variety of technologies, from networking to all sorts of Microsoft applications and operating systems. You will also pickup some Mac skills as well. If you are like a sponge and feel you are lacking IT skills, you will be a strong tech after putting in a year at Bay

Cons

As mentioned, if you are a novice and can stick out a year at Bay, you will be a strong tech. Problem is, most techs that works there last a year if they are lucky. Management, or should I say, micromanagement runs rampant. The owner is always on the floor looking over peoples backs and listening in on calls to make sure things are going ok. The company has lost a lot of clients due to poor quality of service, and making promises that cannot be kept. Employees are not told their salaries are based on a 45 hour work week until the contract process begins, another sneaky move. When it comes to mileage compensation, you will only be compensated for half of your trip as they consider every client site a "branch office." As for all of the positive reviews on Yelp! and Glassdoor, these are all planted by staff members, so if you think these reviews are a little over the top, they are, because employees were forced to write them!

Open Office and Friendly Team

Pros

There’s an emphasis on teamwork and collaboration in this office and with that they also have a fully open office layout. It’s nice having easy access to everyone, from the engineers to the Level 1 techs, and whenever you’re having any issues or ask a question about a client’s environment the team is all over it and ready to help (sometimes even more help than you would know what to do with… which is great but can be a bit overwhelming right off the bat) Besides not having to deal with cubicles and ugly grey mini-walls, a side bonus of the open layout is the awesome views we get from the top floor (especially of the sunsets now that daylight savings time is gone) More BBQ Please! Every so often we do office-wide team building activities and it’s nice to take a short break to dig into some good food and get a little silly with your coworkers, especially now that we’re branching out from pizza and getting the good stuff brought in… Depending on what your job responsibilities are- if you can make the argument for how it will benefit the company and improve your skills in serving customers, you can pursue certifications through the company, and have those ridiculously expensive test fees covered- which is a game-changer when going after those career builders. I have to say one of my favorite things has been getting to know all of the unusual hobbies that my teammates have! Didn’t even know that boar hunting was a real thing and have been really surprised how many urban farmers we have in the office (loving getting free zucchinis and peppers at work) Throw in a few photographers, golfers and even a dragon boat racer and you start to get the picture… Oh… And Marvel… SO much Marvel… ALL the Marvel- The whole office was counting down the week Captain America: Winter Soldier came out. Anytime a new Marvel or DC movie get announced or a trailer is released, you know what the lunchtime conversation’s gonna be. I think they were talking about having everyone go see Winter Soldier together as the spring team building activity but decided not to when too many techs were seeing it at midnight.

Cons

First off, I love having a view and easy access to everyone but on those days where everyone is on the phone helping a client it gets really LOUD with the open layout. (It's these moments which make me get why cubes became a thing. Curse you stupid pragmatism and cubicles!) Also I know it’s the nature of the best in our industry but on the random days where there’s a tidal wave of tickets and a bunch of the team is out in the field at client sites it can be stressful balancing everything and coordinating speedy responses when you’re suddenly hit with a client on the phone demands urgent help at that exact moment. When they can though, the team is awesome about stepping up when necessary and have definitely been lifesavers more than once! Last thing. The candy bowl and I are fighting. No matter how hard I attack…That sneaky little thing keeps getting filled back up. It’s a love/hate relationship with chocolate tending to win. Still coming to terms with it.

Small Company Culture with Big Company Perks !!!

Pros

I’ve had a long tenured IT career, worked both in large and small companies and I’ve worked domestically and internationally. Bay Computing Group (BCG) is by far the smallest company I’ve joined and yet immediately after starting, I was pleasantly surprised to be offered some value added perks that larger companies tend to ignore. Within the first week of employment, I was provided free VIP monthly parking below our office building, a new PC/Tablet, an iPhone, a very sweet desk environment including four large monitors and in-house technical training. During that same week, there was also a company team building event including dinner, a team lunch and a recognition ceremony for a long term employee. What an impressive first week! Within a few months, BCG extended additional benefits to all full time employees and they even offered a few VIP perks to part time employees. That was over a year ago and I am still here. This is a good company and the owner/CEO is a great person to work with. He has an in depth knowledge of the IT industry, stays on the cutting edge and he knows the details of what’s going on within his company and with the clients. Not only does he sincerely listen to employee suggestions and concerns, but he makes prompt decisions and executes them. The same goes for client feedback and there are continuous efforts made to improve client services. BCG is a professional organization, provides excellent IT services, staffed with educated and courteous resources and one of the best places to work in the East Bay.

Cons

The temperature in the office isn’t regulated very well. This is a building maintenance issue, but it’s cold in the summer time and even colder in the winter. There’s only one deli in the building, so if you want to go out for a decent lunch, there’s not many options for the one hour lunch break.
