I worked at BitTorrent full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Great people to work with.
Interesting projects with small teams so you wear whatever hat is needed.
    Fun and relaxing environment.

    Cons

Recently the company has had trouble monetizing its products which rarely come to fruition or become profitable so it has done multiple cycles of lay offs. Job security may be an issue.

I have been working at BitTorrent full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good snacks
    Decent pay and benefits
Some smart engineers (but almost all of them are looking)

    Cons

No one thought it could get worse than the co-CEO situation with DJS. We were wrong. The current situation with a weak and spineless interim CEO who is totally controlled by a very political general counsel is in fact much worse.

A single investor owns a huge percentage (way over half) of the stock.

    Advice to Management

Try and find a real CEO (do not bring back a former CEO who had their chance and failed). Chances are no one competent wants the job. So when you can't find a real CEO then:

Sell the uTorrent/BitTorrent client business before the user base erodes further its value shrinks.

Sell BitTorrent Live before the whole team quits.

Outsource HR, accounting, and legal. There is no reason a company this small (and shrinking) keeps all those functions in house. Legal and accounting are the source of most of the office politics.

I worked at BitTorrent full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There was nothing positive here other than several very intelligent peers.

    Cons

Controlled by the investors, juvenile founder, and deceitful CFO, CEO. Horrible HR. Co-CEOs were a disaster and the board dysfunctional.

    Advice to Management

    Resign.

I worked at BitTorrent full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Team was awesome and passionate about their job. Very cool technology that can be used in many applications

    Cons

Struggling to find revenue model to support the size of company so there have been many rounds of down-sizing.

    Advice to Management

Lean and mean is the way to go with the current torrent client. Branch out in to related areas through partnerships.

I worked at BitTorrent full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Excellent overall C++ engineering talent across teams, especially on the team developing uTorrent

Flexible work environment, though some may call this a con in a certain light

    Cons

Lack of diversity across all communities, and no resources to promote an inclusive or open workplace.

Senior leadership is heavily reactive, which means there is no long-term vision for the company. It seems as though the Live team portion of BitTorrent will be a sell-off - just as with Sync earlier this year (which became the company Resilio). It's unclear what the future holds for uTorrent, and BitTorrent, as a whole. It may not be around for much longer.

    Advice to Management

Execute planning decisions with more foresight. Think about consequences in all areas of the business. Don't do it alone. If you're not confident in your leadership skills, be humble and figure out a way to improve. Things do get worse.

Laying people off and hiring them back when you later realize the company doesn't functionally operate without them is not a way the way to run a team. Think about it this way: you were cut from the soccer team senior year after being MVP the first three years of school. You were counting on a scholarship, and you're dedicated to your sport and team. A week later, the coach suddenly changes his mind and asks you to come back. The coach can't really explain away his mistake. If you're so critical to the game, he shouldn't have kicked you off the field.

    Pros

Very strong engineering chops. interesting tech
    Good benefits (100% health insurance)
    Nice HQ location

    Cons

Little if any product, design, UI/UX talent (other than OnAir): try using any of them
Laughable management: talented execs decamped to Google, Luxe, Mozilla...one flat out told me they didn't exercise their options
Laughable management, part II: nepotism (ask who's married to whom)
Laughable management, part III: product decisions such as trying to make Sync a consumer product and monetize without material scale; pouring $ into Bleep when metrics dictated kill

    Advice to Management

Advice to the Board: clean house
