I worked at CCTV full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Nicest, friendliest co-workers in the television news business. Beautiful office in great downtown location. Good benefits.

    Cons

Mid-level managers with no management experience. Top managers from China are disconnected and biased. Management attitude of keep your head down... do your job... you're lucky to be working here. Very little room for promotion. No recognition at all.

    I worked at CCTV full-time

    Pros

It brings you to places and gives you great opportunities. It opens your eyes and makes you think you have a great job.

    Cons

For different people it's different. To make it simple, if you're a Chinese national, you will get something out of it but after a while well good luck. If you're non Chinese, congratulations I heard the pay is not bad.

I have been working at CCTV full-time

    Pros

Benefits are great, people are nice, prestigious global news organization, opportunities to grow, stable and developing a unique voice in a crowded news industry.

    Cons

Management is pretty clueless editorially. Upper management is so disinterested and disconnected from employees that morale is lousy, people feel unappreciated, there's no team-building and most of the newsroom would quit today if a better opportunity arose elsewhere. It's hard to care when you don't feel cared about.

    Advice to Management

Show employees you value them by communicating appreciation, offering pathways to grow, and making the newsroom feel cohesive. Don't underestimate how much employees talk to each other and compare notes about how they get treated and how unhappy they are. People will either quit and leave or mentally quit and stay on to do the bare minimum. Your reputation will suffer if these things aren't addressed.

    Cons

Working hours can be quite late, and very likely you need to work on holidays

    Advice to Management

Give designers more control of their creative designs

I have been working at CCTV part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people are kind, upper management is nice (they don't bother or micromanage you) and they care about progressing an employee's abilities.

    Cons

They will squeeze you for every penny that you're worth. Ever single hour matters and they can really work you. Many complain about how they are being shuffled into lesser positions and many feel like they are just a cog piece in the company's machinery. Managers can often overlook people and just demand a product. Work can be grueling with little to no reward.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees like they matter.
