I worked at Cascades full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good job lots of old and new equipment good for a starting job/ boot allowance/ free uniforms/ great people/ good learning environment

    Cons

Horrible shift style/ need new equipment/ bonus was horrible/ management can sometimes be to concerned with safety rather then listening to the workers who know what is safe and what is not.

    Advice to Management

Update old equipment and safety was excellent when I was there

I worked at Cascades full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Cascades has done a nice job of hiring some strong employees that are fun to work with and help achieve goals.

    Cons

Leadership from Candiac is a bit too know-it-all and volatile for the good of the company's future and for the employees. And that affects morale all the way throughout the plant.

    Advice to Management

Spend more time listening rather than making edicts.

    Pros

it's a job until you find a better environment

    Cons

weak management that refuses to support its employees. will work against the employees and set you up to fail which leads to a very high turnover rate. very low morale with little chance of advancement. will bring in outside people (Canadians) and pass over current employees rather than training them to improve and stay with the company. management does not trust the employees and treats them that way. the good employees leave as soon as they can (and it is basically a revolving door)

    Advice to Management

if you treat employees like they don't matter and don't care, then that is the workforce you get. very political atmosphere which leads to the lowest morale I have seen along with the lack of pay makes it hard to keep employees

I worked at Cascades full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

profit sharing, company store, 401k plan is great, and good company parties

    Cons

Poor management. Managers do not seem to know what is going on and they tend to not listen to the employees. Top down approach. Tend to favor fellow french Canadian employees rather than trust other they hire.

    Advice to Management

Learn to listen to the experts you hire. Empower employees, don't just claim to, and create an open door policy.

I worked at Cascades full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I really don't have any good reason to advise working here, the hours are not very family oriented and the management is un-caring to say the least

    Cons

Upper management is blind to the needs of its employees, and will not take advise from subordinates

    Advice to Management

Get back to the companies roots!

I have been working at Cascades (Less than a year)

    Pros

It's difficult to find positive things to say about Cascades if you're a US based employee. The company just recently announced that many positions would be transferred to Canada at the expense of US workers. Career opportunities are also greatly diminished as a result of these changes.

    Cons

Cascades used to be a great place to work for but the last couple of years have been very difficult and demotivating. The company is trying to transform itself from a decentralized model to a centralized one by pushing shared services and moving the decision making all back to Canada. You could argue that this makes financial sense but the senior management just does not have what it takes to execute such a major transformation.

    Advice to Management

Go back to your roots and respect the values that the organization was built on. Here they are in case you've forgotten them: respect, autonomy, communication, initiative, team work and adaptability.

I worked at Cascades full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Solid corporation that was started on family values.
Good opportunities for advancement and learning.
Many different locations all around the world.

    Cons

Being headquartered in Canada, not a lot of focus and energy put into plants in the US.
More focused on growing the tissue business than putting efforts in the folding carton industry.
