Pros

Good pay and benefits but are slowly taking them away.

Cons

You will be working for investors. If your location is budget tight then look out. Employee cuts are the first to come. The company makes its money buy cutting labor and budget costs. Work load on individuals are tripled if not more but the credit will be consumed by management. The CEO constantly applauds corporate infrastructure period. You will be asked to perform irregular job duties on a constant basis that may or may not require travel. They claim sigma 6 Managment but it simply isn’t true. Corporate policy’s are cherry picked and skewed and when needed are managed around to benefit the company over the individual depending on need. Don’t expect to get an explanation for any of your benefits as the HR department is overwhelmed and lacking as well. HR department act more like corporate lawyers than employee safe havens. Ask any blue color employee of Cogentrix how they feel. I bet they concur.

Good ol' boy organization

Pros

Cogentrix provides a nice work environment, an excellent 401 K plan and heath care benefits. The highest level of management knows the business and is genuinely interested in the the success of all it's employees.

Cons

Problems emerge at mid-level management. Promotions and considerations are based on the good ol' boy system. Many were with the company for a lot of years, and the retention of those employees is superb. How ever, if you are a new employee, expect to have a difficult time adjusting to the environment. Retention for new employees is abysmal. You quickly become aware of closed door meetings between your peers and management and a careful ear will reveal that the conversations are about other employees who are not part of the clique. The blame game is definitely on there.

Pros

small-company feel, really seem to care about their people

Cons

The way they're organized may force more frequent turnover unless you're at corporate headquarters
