Pros

- Very interesting technical challenges - A LOT of autonomy (could be a con) - Amazing perks (WFH stipend, random gifts all the time) - Very smart colleagues - Great communication all around the company - Exciting - Brilliant CEO and engineering execs - A lot of useful education and automation regarding processes

Cons

- There is a lot of autonomy so if you're the kind of person who needs the work to be handed to you, you'll have to adjust - Since crypto is a very fast paced field, you will often have multiple projects on the go at the same time so work-life balance is usually relatively bad, although the company does offer re-charge days (and weeks) so that we can all take time off. - This is the biggest con: you get assessed if you're "on-track" or "off-track" every quarter, if you're "off-track", you have 60 days to fix it. Quite an aggressive stance, similar to Amazon's PIP program which is notoriously toxic.

- Great pay and perks from the company. - Lots of fun stuff happening within crpyto and projects to work on.

- Doesn't care about employees - Lack of vision - Product DRI ran structure makes one bad seed taint the entire product space. - Lacks core functions like research and data.

Not quite put together yet on all policies and procedures, or they change too quickly. Layoffs come harsh and unexpected. They keep outsourced employees over US employees.

- Organizational chaos: many reorgs and successive layoffs. - C-level executives arguably out of touch with reality on the ground and general employee base. - Somewhat nonsensical libertarian ideology flows from the top.

Very intelligent co-workers. I learned a ton from the people I worked with, both in terms of job related knowledge, and other areas related to the industry (Bitcoin, infosec, etc.).

Cons

Work life balance was poor. I worked around the clock, including weekends, for my final 6 months at the company. There was an explicit culture shift while I was there, and I believe that new employees are given accurate information regarding expectations, so anyone joining now shouldn't be surprised by this.

Pros

Hands down the best company I've ever had the privilege of working for! Not only does everyone treat each other with the utmost respect, but the company consistently gives back to employee's in every way they possibly can and beyond with an unbelievable amount of benefits. If I were in a situation where I was rich, I'd still choose to work for this company if they asked me for the help, and this is not loyalty won over easily. They paid way more in base salary than they needed to, offered a completely work from home environment which was insanely well organized, had nearly every procedure and operation seamlessly on auto pilot, and had the best and smartest individuals I've ever been able to work alongside. I would work for them again immediately should they every wish to employ me back, and with no hard feelings from what I'm about to list as a con.

Due to big tech layoff's caused by the ever changing economy during mid 2022, it's of no surprise that financial markets were hit the hardest, and as a result executive leadership had to make the impossible call of letting 1,100 amazing employee's go. While it's very difficult to accurately predict the future and while Coinbase has acknowledged and learned from it's mistake of attempting to grow to quickly as a major goal for 2022, the only con I would have to add is that this still unfortunately did happen. Making growth a major goal for 2022 then not only being able to meet that goal but needing to then do the opposite and downsize every individual they'd spent Q1 and Q2 of 2022 building is not a thing you'd hope to predict wrong.

Pros

Best place to learn about crypto with reasonable (yet volatile) compensation. A lot of diverse bets, hopefully some of those find product market fit. Many ex-CB folks go on to start web3 startups, CB really opens your eyes to the possibilities within crypto.

Cons

Several bad patterns seen here. Not data-driven but very gut driven. No feedback loops on product launches, PMs will find ideas on crypto-twitter and launch them. The main app and wallet now feels like a kitchen sink of poorly tested features. Exec team (esp CEO) operate like robots and have built a super transactional mercenary culture. Town halls feel like a recorded podcast. None of this is a statement on crypto itself which I'm still bullish on despite the massive volatility and uncertainty in the past year.
