I worked at Colgate University full-time

    Cons

Isolated area, but it is a nice area.

I have been working at Colgate University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

-Benefits are unbeatable in the area
-free fitness center (although it is packed and staff members can't use the same locker room as faculty or students, we have to use the locker room the community members and campers use)
-depending on where you work there is room for staff development/you can go to workshops

    Cons

    -pay inequality
    -HR is shady
-if you complain, you ARE PUNISHED
-if you work in certain departments, you are not allowed to go to the fitness classes, workshops, or other meetings/socials that are essentially paid time wasted...

    Advice to Management

Get it together. Value staff, we are the ones who hold the faculty and upper management together. Also, the better than thou attitude is old. Drop it.

    Pros

Beautiful school; smart students; some great faculty

    Cons

Expected to do job of 3 people; very formal office, like stepford wife comment. Lack of communication and collaboration among staff in office.

    Advice to Management

Hire enough people to support needs. Include staff in decisions and discussions. Provide goals and feedback.

I have been working at Colgate University full-time

    Pros

Beautiful campus - lots of free fun things to do on campus. Generally speaking, people at the university are friendly. There are great benefits offered here, far better than most state schools. The pay is excellent.

    Cons

Hamilton, NY (where Colgate is located) has very difficult winters. The town is extremely small and can be costly in terms of housing. There is a major lack of diversity on campus and in the community.

    Advice to Management

Please work on more diversity and diversity-oriented programs.

I have been working at Colgate University full-time

    Pros

As a small liberal arts institution, its an intellectually rigorous space. You'll learn a lot, whether you like it or not. The farmer's market is pretty great too. The village, can be picturesque do distract you from the lack of city.

    Cons

It's a Predominately White Institution (PWI), in an area where there isn't much to do. Very stuck on tradition, so if you bring new ideas, that's cool. Just don't expect anything to change.

    Advice to Management

Be able to live in a small village in upstate universe where the biggest "chain" brand is Price Chopper. The nearest thing to an urban city is an hour away: Syracuse. Like any Higher Ed Institution, Colgate and its students will challenge. The staff will too. But at the end of the day, there are significant rewards from those challenges, if you're willing to hack it. Would really, really, really, highly suggest researching the area before moving.
