I have been working at Cone

    Pros

Really, it's the good people here that makes all the difference. I've never seen a company of over 60 employees where everyone is so good to each other and are just decent human beings. The creativity, intelligence and client services at Cone is exceptional. The company also truly cares for the quality of life of their employees and strives to create a great work-life balance. The client work is stellar and the majority...

    Cons

The pay is a little low for cost of living in Boston, but that seems to be more of a PR industry problem. Though I do hope they cherish their employees and rectify it.

I worked at Cone for more than 4 years

    Pros

Work from home Fridays, matching 401k, good location, great CPG clients (or at least they used to have great CPG clients), many individuals were great

    Cons

No culture, high expectations with minimal reward for hard work, the best of leadership was quick to leave (I had two great mentors while I was there and they both left when it was clear there was nothing good happening at Cone anymore), no room for growth and the second you mentioned starting a family you got the cold shoulder from management. Leadership had no strategic vision and ability to adapt to changes in the...

    Advice to Management

No agency is perfect, but start being truthful with yourselves about where the issues are likely stemming from - that would be management - you have/had many hard working, smart employees leaving or being laid off because of mismanagement over the years.

I worked at Cone full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Cone is such an amazing place. The people are so nice and easy to talk to, and now they moved to a new location, much closer to the metropolitan area. Great CSR works, lots of outstanding clients, great place to learn if you want to get CSR/corporate philanthropy experience. You will love here!!

      Cons

Not too much internal growth opportunities because Cone is slowly adapting to many of Porter Novelli's workstyle. Mid-level executives are the backbone of the company but they're overworking and taking on too many roles. Cone is making changes but it's still so slow.

      Advice to Management

Please provide feedback to everyone on the team, it's crucial you're talking to everyone.

I worked at Cone full-time for more than 6 years

      Pros

Smart and aggressive employees work from home Fridays new offices new location curious and helpful co-workers

      Cons

Leadership is beyond terrible. Widespread belief among employees that Senior Leadership team as a whole is untrustworthy, lack vision or any understanding of challenges for account staff. The very high turnover of the agency over the past three years is evidence of that. They won't tell anyone this but Cone has gone from 110 employees 3 years ago to now only 50. It's really bad.

      Advice to Management

They need to replace sr. management. The recent firing of the CEO was long overdue and should be just the start.

      I worked at Cone full-time

      Pros

-Big name clients -Consumer PR shop in Boston -Good office location in Back Bay -Great work from home and flex policy -Early release (3:00 Fridays, 1:00 summer Fridays)

      Cons

-Total burnout -Works staff like dogs; expecting them to stay late and work massive overtime with no extra compensation -Incompetence at the executive level (nice people but bad at business) -Lots of people quitting and often -Little to no mentorship/career development opportunities -Low pay, even for PR -No bonuses due to poor budget forecasting and management

      Advice to Management

Listen and change things when people tell you they're overworked. You'll keep people from quitting that way.

      I worked at Cone full-time

      Pros

Smart people, great CSR work and thought leadership, very transparent policies and great company outings. Lots of great processes and policies in place for employee growth. Moving to a new, better office in 2017.

      Cons

Lots of internal meetings, conference calls and emails. Lacking digital/social expertise and in-house talent, a little behind in embracing emerging trends. Slow to adopt new approaches and thinking.

I worked at Cone full-time for more than 4 years

      Pros

Great clients. Regular promotions. Plenty of travel. High profile work. Best option in Boston to work for mainstream brands. Great CSR legacy.

      Cons

Leadership exceptionally concerned with employees getting pregnant. Having a baby will end career growth options. Poor flextime and work from home options. Mandatory 9 hour work day, or unable to be considered full-time.

      Advice to Management

Take a page from what you counsel your clients and develop a progressive working environment.

High-quality clients with reputable brands Smart employees at all levels Excellent intern opportunities Social workplace - work hard, play hard Motivated by important values (honesty, ethics, etc.)

      Cons

Vision and path of the company isn't always clear (from senior management) True work/life balance can be a challenge - there's a 24/7 expectation
