If you enjoy a challenge, then it's awesome
Jan 12, 2023 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- I have the resources I need to do my job; I only realize this so much when I talk with others in my industry - the company really does think differently. it takes "first principles" to a whole new level - truly flexible work. it's an intellectually challenging environment with a very high bar, but if you can manage yourself then that's the ideal situation (for me at least)
Cons
- like above - it takes "first principles" to a whole new level. sometimes that can be exhausting. BUT as like above - if you like a challenge, you'll grow from it.

Pros
Fantastic culture that treats employees like adults. Gobs of mutual team trust that makes it fun and exciting to work here. Kindness permeates. The work load is stimulating and challenging. The products and services we are building are super useful in an age of corporate malpractice regarding individual privacy.
Cons
This is a company for professionals who have a lot of remote experience and value remote work. If you don't have a lot of remote experience or are on the fence about it, this is not the job for you.

Challenging and Rewarding Job

Very autonomous remote work - can work anywhere at any time so long as I get my work done. No micromanaging. Really bright, intelligent people - I'm always learning from people around me. Opportunity to grow skills and expand in new directions over time. I always feel like I can bring ideas to the table & be honest. Company truly believes in its values and keeps them strong in its culture. Salary and benefits are competitive. Good work-life balance. Refreshing company culture - transparent, non-hierarchical, walks the walk. Also provides opportunity to meet up in person with your coworkers, which is always fun and invigorating.
Cons
The interview process was the most rigorous I've been through but in retrospect it did provide a mutual opportunity to see if it was a good fit for both parties. And it gave me time to learn about the DuckDuckGo way of doing things.

Great work/life balance
Jun 14, 2021 - Talent Acquisition in Austin, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
There's something to be said about a company that treats everyone like an adult. No micromanaging, fantastic support from colleagues, and clear + honest feedback means there's no imposter syndrome here.
Cons
We haven't been able to see each other in person in a long time due to COVID. Getting together a couple times a year really helps build those strong bonds with colleagues.

Pros
DuckDuckGo is by far the best place I have ever worked. My coworkers are smart, humble, and driven, and there are endless opportunities for growth. The company is structured so that you can participate in cross-functional projects often, so there's a lot of opportunity to learn new skills and domains. The culture is super transparent and there is no formalized hierarchy, so anyone at any level can propose and run with new initiatives.
Cons
There's not much structure around what to work on, which can be a plus for some (autonomy!), but difficult for others who are used to having more concrete specific goals they need to achieve to get to the next level.

Working alongside very intelligent, passionate people who believe in the purpose and live the ethos
Cons
company is a remote organization with people all over the world, this might be an adjustment for some used to working in a traditional office environment.

The good thing about independence is that you don't to deal with nasty employers
Cons
Depending on your luck. But most of the managers are looking for themselves.

Pros
Great work environment. The office is not that big but all the employees are very friendly and you get to know them very well through work and many company dinners. The work itself is not super difficult as long as you stay on top of it. You are also given freedom to work on projects of your choice for the company.
Cons
I have absolutely no complaints.
