- Free to schedule my day - Knowledgeable developer co-workers - Head of my dept. heard me out and agreed with me before I left with two ~30 min meetings.
Cons
- Horrible pay, below the lowest of low of the national average for front end development. ( Starting @ 10/hr in 2016 ). Management needs to take a serious look at this. I showed statistics for this in the first meeting and was told If I stick around I could get bumped to 12.50 in 6 months, and maybe 14 in a year. I was told to run away from this company by every developer I talked to. - No communication between departments - No direction, and no orientation. I was clueless on what I was actually to be doing for my first few days and nobody knew. - No coding protocols or guidelines, every developer coded on their own terms. Messy or wrong it didn't matter. ( This is a pro in a way, but leads for too much trouble in revising code later, or of other devs code, especially without my next point... ) - There was absolutely no version control in the internet department! -- Research any type of development and this crucial to having a smooth development process, this also restricted a single dev for each project no matter how large. - Extremely far behind on client work, every day was a rush and all resources are horribly managed. The last point I will make is that our lead developer was working on a huge website (100+ pages) that was months overdue and had they pulled their resources together, used version control to give them the ability to have more than one developer per website they would be be able to hammer it out and get it to the client. Big clients have projects like that, and big clients affect your reviews the most. Allocate your resources better before it really runs you into the ground. !!!! Any developer, fresh out of school/college or not, do not waste your time here unless this is fixed. Keep building that portfolio and go somewhere else !!!! You probably paid to go to school and you deserve a wage that you can live off of and pay back your debt without pinching your pennies. People don't go into this field to make 10/hr.
