Pros

AIESEC is not a scam or some kind of religious sect that aims to screw you. That's an organization that is formed and run by students. All the pros and cons are derived from that fact if you think of it. With this being said, I must admit that AIESEC (further will be referred to as aiesec or @) is a good place for you if you want to improve your English or hang out with active students from The University of Economics. It would demand quite a significant part of your time. If you don't feel like spending lots of hours on student events that are more about fun and communication rather than real work, there might be some better options to choose from. Before I move on with my review, I believe some additional disclosure is in order. I was a member of this organization for 9 months. I didn't complete the second term, so I am not considered an @ alumni. (Someone who has received a full experience, even though my first term was complete). If you survived this long, here is some more information you might find useful: Business model: They sell and promote volunteering experiences all around the world. They could also offer working experience, but the salary is too low to even cover the living costs. They are non-profit which means there is no major beneficiary or stakeholder. That also means most of their profits would go to cover the offices they rent. About @ culture: They have this culture where they organize a lot of meetings and events. I think they do it even more often than the actual work. Some of those events you may not visit (I did visit most of them), but you would be highly encouraged to participate. They love dancing as well and do it a lot but mostly during parties. Nevertheless, that's not the only thing you will be doing there. When it comes to the official organizational culture, it's very corporate-like with all the ideas about changing the world and brewing a real leader in you. They talk a lot about leadership & personal growth, they do less. A lot of individuals there do live with all those beliefs and are highly determined. The community there is very attached to the organization, so you might expect a different treatment depending on how much you give to this community (mostly with your time) and whether you share their beliefs or not. They have got an official document called The AIESEC Way where they point out the most meaningful principles of organization. What you will do at @: Mostly some easy tasks with excel or web software. Not very exciting unless you did not have any working experience previously. There is a chance you will be doing an interview with candidates, which would like to go to an exchange and help them with that. Oh, and you might also be in finance or marketing there, but I do not possess any info regarding those positions. This might be exciting, you might get an opportunity to lead your team. But not during the first term. You are not getting paid for your work as it is volunteering. What rocks about AIESEC: Sometimes that was very fun, It had plenty of opportunities for language learning, there are mostly very nice people.

Cons

It takes a lot of your time and the utility, as well as your excitement, tends to decline with time. Their crisis management completely sucks. In my case, I got covid during the second term and my VP told me I should leave. So, I was fired from the job I was even paid for. I felt that the organization doesn’t value its members and treats you like crap if you cannot perform enough for it. That really sucked!
