Pros

Field crews (non-supervisor, though some are dedicated to helping their crews) are dedicated to providing the best service possible to the people of Mesa. Have made meaningful relationships with all the field crews. The Fire Departments treat you like family if you gain their trust.

Cons

Management does not care about your safety and worries more about how they look than how you provide care. Out of date equipment and ambulances that break down on a daily basis. Some field supervisors will do anything they can to help you, others will only be there to berate you and will not protect you when something goes wrong. They live and breath for profit and nothing else. If you get on the bad side of a supervisor they will do what they can to make your life miserable. They will call you in for "mandatory overtime" with no extra pay or bonuses. Working 48 straight with no rest or extra compensation is very dangerous to the employees and to the patients that are under their care. Management will expect you to go back in service before finishing up paperwork on a patient you just treated, which can lead to inaccurate documentation. This is not so you can help others, it is so they can transport more people for profit. Many would say to use this job as a stepping stone for another career, but in all truth it causes more burnouts than career EMTs and Paramedics.

Pros

Career growth opportunities, supportive coworkers, opportunities to learn and develop, ability to advance if you stay engaged and work hard

Cons

Healthcare/EMS can be demanding, long hours at times, stressful days, and workload can be heavy depending on staffing and operations. These things aren’t specific to AMR, that’s our industry in general.

Pros

There’s a good workforce here with employees who are well united on issues a strong sense that the company is actually pushing toward a positive future in terms of operations. Ambulance fleet seems to be getting good upgrades and call volume (in most areas) is manageable. There is also a good amount of OT available with bonuses/incentives available. Matching 401k is nice and health benefits are very reasonable.

Cons

For being such a large operation, the pay rate seems to be lacking as of right now. Most employees with adult responsibilities are having to rely heavily on overtime/incentives just to have a semi-comfortable lifestyle outside of work. Uniforms definitely need improvements and training for new EMTs seems a bit lackluster. The morale can be low at times also due to the company being write-up happy (for lack of a better term). Lack of 24 hour units and proper posting locations makes for a somewhat harsh work day as well.
