Pros

You are given a lot of responsibility and learn very quickly. Rather than becoming specialized, you learn a variety of skills that you can translate to many other industries. You work with great people other than upper management. If you are in a position where you are buffered from the owner, than you'll be alright.

Cons

The owner/president does not have a clear set of goals. He wants to make a standard piece of equipment but essentially re-invents the wheel every time. He does not constructively criticize. Rather he rips you to shreds like a bully to feed his own ego. You can give him credit for growing the company as large has he has recently but he also isn't grounded. Decisions aren't made rationally. They are more shoot from the hip. They also like to set you up to fail. If you want to climb the ladder, you essentially become a spineless/gutless puppet of the owner.

Thanks for the feedback. ASC has grown to be the world's leading composite autoclave supplier due to great designs, great products, and most of all a great team of employees who care about the products and customers. We are the best in the world at what we do, and this success does not come without a core belief in perfection and customer satisfaction. I am passionate about this company and our products, and while I recognize that all people have different abilities, I expect each engineer to show a minimum level of attention to the quality of their designs and work product. Anything less is a disservice to the company and to the customer. When an engineer doesn't have pride in their own work, they will inevitably deliver sub-standard product. This does not go unnoticed at ASC, and it will probably result in a frank discussion with me. It sounds like you were on the receiving end of one or more of these discussions, and I'm sure it was not fun for you. Although I have softened my approach the last couple of years, it is still not a fun day for the engineer when he/she decides to deliver sloppy work to his/her manager or me. I hope you've recovered by now. Good luck with your career.

Thanks for the review. You are correct that we have lots of work, and it's also true that sometimes that work load can add stress to your day. Sorry about that. We are continuing to take steps to improve the work efforts so that they occur with fewer roadblocks. Hopefully that will make your day less stressful in the future. As for the investment opportunities, ASC is privately held and as such does not issue stock or options to employees.

Pros

Decent starter job for controls engineer

Cons

Management will very rarely have your back as the dollar sign is gods word. Field work sounds exciting at first but will ship you out on back to back multi-month jobs without breaks. There are snakes in the other departments that will try to bring you down to bring themselves up. Benefits arent great either and judge you for taking sick days and vacation time.
