Pros
How often do you get to work new rocket from conceptual design through manufacture of flight hardware? The work environment is incredibly fast paced and the team is purposely small. You have to love what you do, be completely autonomous, and quickly build relationships with some of the best and brightest people in the aerospace industry. Everyone is highly capable; there is no room or time to indulge slackers or anyone who wants to punch a clock. Project budgets are reasonable, schedules are extremely short and responsibility is placed on those willing to accept it. High risk/high reward concepts are adopted frequently. Failure in the process of development of these concepts is expected, but only in the course of understanding the complexities of the technology. Resources required to succeed in the mission are supplied by management without reservation. Once a decision is made to pursue a technical direction, the entire company is all in. Blue Origin is family friendly, your spouse, your kids and your pets are all welcome here. There is a dedicated play space for the children complete with toys, books, and drawing supplies.
Cons
You will spend a significant amount of time at work, work life balance will be challenging to achieve. Your salary growth will not compete with any of the high tech companies in the area. There are no titles and consequently no traditional career growth path. If you need a title to show off to your friends and family, you won’t find it here. Management reorganization is rare, and new management positions are rare as well.
