Pros
Today is my last day, after 1254 working days at Busuu. Phew, sounds like a lot, doesn't it? So what got me out of bed, all those mornings? A product used by millions around the world and genuinely making a difference in people's lives (just have a look at the App Store reviews). A diverse and exceptional team. Very smart, talented and kind colleagues from all over the world, each of them bringing their authentic selves to work. I made many friends for life here. A true learning ethos. Everyone is always striving to become a better version of themselves, with experimentation being the lifeblood of the company. Success is celebrated and failures become just another opportunity to learn and improve. Vast amounts of data pour through the business and are queried by everyone to base their decisions upon. Moving very, very fast. Plenty of opportunities to grow and scale with the company. A real meritocracy, where you get what you put in. I personally got promoted to head a department after a year in the job. Incredible benefits: competitive pay, share options, fully stocked kitchen, team lunches and outings company trips abroad, private healthcare, flexible working, paid sabbatical after 3 years of service, and the list goes on. Your time in this company will change you, if you put your heart to it. Personally, it will always feel like a special time of my life, a transformational one.
Cons
Not a place for 9-5ers waiting to be told what to do. Busuu will throw autonomy and responsibilities at you, and you'll be expected to rise to the challenge, to take responsibility for yourself and work hard. But if you want to push yourself and blossom professionally, you've come to the right place. And trust me, it will not feel like work, but rather like play and you'll wonder where all the hours of the day went.
