Pros

The Denver office is full of talented, hardworking people that are also humble and genuinely care about the success of one another and our clients. Lots of work-sponsored volunteer events and social hours with people I actually like hanging out with. As an engineer- you get the chance to work for a variety of industries, using a variety of technologies and architectures. Quarterly innovation challenges give you a chance to apply a hot technology (e.g., AR, ML, IoT), even if you are on a less-hot project. They pay for training and certifications. Nationwide, they have an impressive client roster and there is a lot of interesting work going on in the company. People are typically more than happy to share their knowledge. As a consultant, I've grown in my ability to manage projects, communicate with business stakeholders, and recognize when I've seen the same problem before. The company is healthy and growing quickly. It's not often you get to see a company of CapTech's size enter an already-crowded consulting space and successfully compete with the likes of Deloitte, Accenture, Slalom, etc. I feel that I've grown because I've had direct access to the leaders making that happen here.

Cons

The BD, training, and innovation opportunities are in addition to, not in place of, the ~40 hours a week you give to your client. Generally, it's fine if you just want to deliver your client obligation and go home, but you won't move up if you aren't doing more to contribute to CapTech as a firm. It's something to be aware of, but in my experience, the expectation is similar in the tech industry and at other firms. Also- breaking into a new market is hard. Newer national offices like Denver don't have the same brand recognition that the east coast offices enjoy. This means a smaller portfolio and that you might have to work on things that wouldn't have been your first choice technology/project/client.

CapTech Response

We aim to do exactly that! Just this year, we did a “Compensation Roadshow,” visiting each CapTech office to talk to our consultants about compensation and total rewards. As a result, we’ve made changes to better attract and support our employees. We constantly evaluate compensation in each market we serve and we will continue to listen to our consultants about how we can be the best consulting firm to work for and work with. Thank you for your review! - Suzie Turner, CHRO
