Pros

The job was easy to do and often could be fun if you knew the customers and could be rewarding. If you are a part time employee, flexibility was usually no trouble at all. The company would always have new exciting things for employees to try with food and beverage. Often would send you free offers via the Casey’s app. Free beverages and half-off select food items.

Cons

Sometimes it was feast or famine with hours - meaning sometimes hours would be available if management allowed overtime; which wasn’t often. Otherwise sometimes hours would be hard to come by and had to work only what you could with the new budget system in place; schedule adherence. Sometimes you had to pickup other managements slack because they would manage their time poorly. In my case, management would be outside smoking non-stop and giving the store a bad image. Others would be vaping out front as well numerous times throughout the day for customers to see. I get the need to smoke, but there are other places that they could’ve smoked and they did it excessively. Which would lead to neglecting tasks and duties at hand. Voicing issues with higher ups when I had them got me nowhere. Even with illegal activities going on with my other former coworkers. Issues were overlooked and store managers didn’t reprimand any employees out of fear of losing them, even though they were breaking the rules. The good employees would work really hard and the bad ones would continuously get away with many things. So there was really no reward for good work ethic. If you are management, be prepared to work many weekends. I understand the company expects management to work every other weekend at the bare minimum, but I worked almost every weekend for over a year. So work life balance can be an issue. With the schedule adherence in place, coverage could be difficult at times especially with peak times and not allowing employees to clock in early or stay a bit after if the help was needed. So stress and a very busy environment ensued. The store managers were unprofessional in my area and the district supervisor was also. District supervisor would be discussing (gossiping) other people’s stores or business with other parties which was completely inappropriate and not any other parties business. Sometimes you can hold a higher position without the pay and/or title as a result of poor management. I had to work being an assistant with the duties of a store manager without the pay or recognition. While my manager neglected there duties. Favoritism was very much an issue with the managers I dealt with at the location I worked at. There was never enough time to complete the tasks that corporate/ management set out for you to complete. If you closed at night you couldn’t stay very much longer after you closed. So expectations could be unattainable. Low pay!
