Pros

As most reviews have mentioned, the workshops are the highlight of working here. Watching students with no prior programming background write their first line of code is extremely rewarding not just for students but staff as well. Having students genuinely see computer programming as a viable path is very rewarding. CodeNow is not your typical non-profit and thats a good thing. At CodeNow employees get the opportunity to see how the company functions. Employees are not pigeoned to just their main responsibilities and are encouraged to explore what their colleagues are working on and assist where they can. Not many companies can attest to that. Employees get to truly see how interconnected they all are. Management is open to ideas and frequently encourages feedback from employees. This feedback mechanism creates a very welcoming environment as employees are free to discus concerns with management without fear.

Cons

Working here can be psychologically taxing at times. Given the small number of people on the team and the amount of work that needs to be done, it is a constant struggle for balance. Management does its best to alleviate stress for employees but there is still alot of work

Pros

CodeNow cares deeply about empowering youth through learning to code. It's not your average nonprofit. CodeNow functions more like a startup, this allows it to have a large reach and huge impact with a small team. The organization is really committed to being a team. During my time there I learned a great deal about what it take to grow an organization and what I was really capable of. Everyone had to work together to reach our goals.

Cons

The team is small which can throw people off coming from larger organizations. The fast pace environment is not for everyone. If you are looking for a typical 9-5 job this is probably not the best fit for you.
