Pros
Great colleagues, lack of formality, relatively easy to arrange time off, opportunities to learn and be a part of groundbreaking research.
Cons
The lab was very much a sink or swim environment with little to no onboarding and high turn over, a chaotic workaholic manager, and a PI who lacked people skills. The inside joke is that it's expected that employees will burn out (from the poor work/life balance, low salaries and VHCOL area) and leave after 2 years, happy for the prestige of adding UCSF to their resumes.
