ELT is struggling to find it's way and it's trickling down to the business - Sales Leader TriMark USA Employee Review

Pros

There are some tremendously talented people that work here, with a strong brand identity (although that may be waning). The company has experts in their craft and a great understanding of the needs of operators. Pay, while not unbelievable, is fair to market in this industry.

Cons

The headline says it all. This company has not adapted to the industry changes post covid. We have a leadership team that is disjointed, and being run by fear, autocratically. Our CEO is polished and paints the picture for the ownership that everyone has buy in and say on the plans, but that is decidedly not the case. As Sales Leaders, we were "strongly encouraged" not to adjust the earnings budget that was given to us. There is little decision making left at any level without the title CEO - quite literally every single hire, raise, etc. goes to the CEO for approval. All of that is tolerable, except the ELT is scared to actually bring things to him, so the rest of the business is stuck in a loop of indecision. The EVP role is too focused on getting in the weeds of each division vs. driving structural and systemic change to better support the business. I want to be more optimistic, but our good employees are being recruited by vendors and competitors alike, leadership is starting to leave, and I suspect that there are more on the way.

Pros

Hard work pays off if you want to advance (at least it did for me). I really had to exert myself and had a come-to-Jesus meeting with management letting them know that I seriously needed a pay-raise to make my life goals a reality. That conversation and the positive reputation I had built resulted in me getting an interview and then promotion, which is why I am now a homeowner. I've worked for 11 different companies in my life so far and TriMark was the only place where I stayed more than 2 years. There's a lot of things TriMark can do better, but they absolutely did right by me.

Cons

Questionable culture, company is changing and a lot is up in the air. During the interview and onboarding process HR made several errors. Some errors were trivial (typos in the job listing, inaccurate description of particular job duties, telling me to go to the wrong area of the building for the interview) and some were significant (not completing paperwork on TriMark's end thus delaying my starting day, telling me I'll be compensated for my entire missed starting day and then only compensating partially until I sent an email explaining that doing so was unacceptable). The general consensus was that salary and benefits were below average across all positions. TriMark's performance as a business did not justify above average compensation during my tenure so it was to be expected. Over my 2 years I've seen toxic, abusive behavior from a few bad apples both as the direct victim and a bystander. If it happens to you DO NOT tolerate bad treatment, clearly document everything and hold the abuser responsible ASAP. Also, many of the people I worked with did not seem motivated to be excellent at their jobs. Enthusiasm was rare. This toxicity and mediocrity combined made for a questionable work culture my first year. BUT... the company went through major changes and gained new investors in 2024, we all got an email and were pulled into a virtual meeting where we were told that the CEO (Tom Wienclaw) had stepped down with no warning. A lot of the bad apples are no longer with the company. I feel like things have improved significantly but maybe that's because I stopped tolerating mistreatment since I started working here.
