Pros

There is a pay check. Usually.

Cons

Definition of micro management. Terrible owner to employee relations. You WILL be treated like trash. You WILL be expected to work 60-70 hours a week and get paid for 40. Don't even ask for overtime pay. When you first start, the owner will be your best friend. Two weeks later he will be ripping you to anyone that will listen. This is a software company that uses outdated EVERYTHING. VB6 shop and can't figure out why their software is going downhill. Refuses to listen to suggestions. His way or you're out. Will promise bonuses, and rarely come through. Will demand you use your own cell phone when traveling, and offer no reimbursement. Highest stress environment you can imagine. Most stress could easily be avoided and vastly improve working environment and employee morale if the owner would listen to ideas and get a clue in general of how people should be treated. Owner constantly over promises to customers and then sits back and lets support staff take the verbal beatings and then will also verbally rip the support staff when they can't deliver to the customer what was promised and doesn't even exist! Sadly, all this is just the tip of the iceberg for this company. Steer clear.

Pros

Small teams, and a collaborative tight-knit environment.

Cons

Some employees were overseas with a varying schedule, so temporal coordination was difficult at times.

Pros

DesertMicro is the most well-respected software in the industry. They attend 12+ trade shows per year, and continue to grow their client base as well as develop profitable partnerships with other well-respected companies in the industry. I used to work for DM and found it to be the most rewarding job I've had to date. You will WORK YOUR BUTT OFF but feel such a sense of accomplishment through it all. The company's motto is definitely "work hard, play hard," and the CEO is very generous, treating employees to company social events, holiday parties, etc. My only reason for resigning was because I could no longer work full-time and found a part-time position...I now work for a small business that has a plethora of issues that I never had to worry about at DM.

Cons

Unfortunately, as with any company, you cannot prevent disgruntled ex-employees from using online blogs and review sites as an outlet to express their crazed opinions. It's so funny to read the previously written reviews, and you can almost CERTAINLY determine which ex-employees wrote them - dates reviews were written coincide with termination dates, poor grammar and personal attacks on management. Be assured that these crazy opinions by crazy people are not an accurate portrayal of what really goes on at this company. It's a fun, busy environment, and as with any job, it becomes what you make of it.
