Loved the work, hoped for more - Care Worker Developmental Disabilities Association Employee Review

Pros

The majority of the people I worked with had the best interests of the people we supported at heart. It was always about inclusion regardless of the abilities or disabilities of each individual. Outings for exercise were my most favorite.

Cons

Sometimes activities were limited by budget, and quality of life could be improved by the support of government bodies. For example, our cooking class could use fresher and healthier ingredients if the support of the government was higher and the price of food was lower.

Pros

It was nice to have a direct impact on the people that you work with

Cons

You have to pay for the training yourself, and the test that follows is not very forgiving. You have to pay for your license to be renewed. You barely get paid enough to cover rent, let alone all the extra stuff that you have to pay for. They most likely will not cover any work-related injuries, because they "taught you to do things safely, so if you get injured, it's your fault."
