Pros

• Great location on the Thames with an on-site canteen and close to Borough Market • Some fantastic people, was able to make connections and friends outside of my own department • Progressing to be more inclusive and diverse as a company • FT gives you opportunities to upskill and learn (Lightening Talks/Industry talks) • Great use of technology for advancing projects • FT remains one of the finest news content with top rated journalism so was a privilege to work for a period of time

Cons

• Very bad mid-management and Line Manager bullied the team resulting in 4 members of the team leaving the business in an 8 month period (1 was pushed out unfairly), although complaints were made to the Senior Manager they held a personal relationship with the Line Manager and nothing was done following complaints • Line Manager would often change the goal posts on tasks and not communicate this and would then demand to know why they weren’t be achieved, if they were in a bad mood they would want the whole time to be in a bad mood (created a bad atmosphere) and would take credit for things team had done if it would shine a light upon them and advance them • Whilst they were opportunities to upskill or do things outside of your role that advanced the business, Line Manager would block or discourage the team to be involved • Line Manager enforced a strict 9-5 policy and would need to request in advance flexible hours on a certain day but wouldn’t follow this rule for themselves and would often not know the hours the we working on any given day, would also not turn up to 1:1’s with the team members and offer no explanation as to why • Lack of clear strategy for the business • Low pay and not many opportunities for career progression

Pros

Very smart and nice people. The environment is collaborative and encouraging across regions—a good place to start and build a career.

Cons

Pay is way below market, and benefits are limited. Additionally, inconsistent alignment between leadership and management sometimes leads to shifting or unclear expectations.
